As I've said before (and more than once), one of my all-time favorite stories of all time is A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens. Have you seen their version of Treasure Island? It's another classic :)

But of course - I had to see it as soon as I saw Tim Curry was in it. And having Billy Connolly in it made me incredibly happy - I love a Scots accent.

The snow's done. And the book is really terrific. Most of the great lines actually make it into any stage or screen productions, so in a way, you have heard the story, but there's something fun about reading the unabridged Dickens version.

I have a version of A CHRISTMAS CAROL illustrated by Quentin Blake, and holding it in my hands again is one of the pleasures of the holidays for me.

What a great feeling it is to hold a favorite book - and it somehow manages to evoke memories of so many Christmases past, doesn't it?

Yes. And this book was a gift from a dear friend who I do not see often anymore; her inscription alone brings me back.

I've loved A Christmas Carol ever since my best elementary school friend and I played the Cratchits in the school play in fifth grade :) It's taught in seventh grade in the county where I teach, which makes me quite jealous. I love your interpretation, that if Scrooge can find redemption, we all can!

Don't you think that's part of the attraction? I mean, Dickens took a completely negative archetype of a character and firmly established him as the meanest of the mean, yet folks are still keen to read on. That's a tremendous skill, don't you think?
