Challenges to books by people I actually know

If you think that challenges to books by people you actually know are unlikely, I'd encourage you to take a second look.

Have they even read Speak??? I can't say more...the plethora of words is choking me.

If they are applying words like "smutty" to it, then I'm going to go ahead and say NO. That they applied the word "obscenity" to Looking for Alaska is similarly bewildering - there's a (hilarious) blow job scene in the book, but it barely qualifies as sexual in nature because it goes so far wrong. And it's one extremely short snippet out of a text that has a lot to do with many other things, and not at all what the book is "about".

Grrr. Book banning makes me so angry. It's based in fear and judgment and those are awful places from which to try and dictate other people's rights. And a book like Speak, that is so beautiful and important, called "smutty?" Seriously? Grrrr.
