I Confess

I went to the most excellent ska concert. Seriously. Two different 2Tone bands: Bad Manners, starring Buster Bloodvessle, and The English Beat (actually touring under that name, and not as The Beat - no Ranking Roger, who's touring as the Beat in the U.K., but it was fronted by Dave Wakeling, so color me happy ( Read more... )

I'm soooo jealous of your dinner tonight. Give everybody hugs from me.

I will do so, and I will bring hugs back for you when I see you in March (weather permitting, etc., but I'm planning on it!)

I love the Beat, too, and they were MARVELOUS! Also, they're in Farmingdale, NY tomorrow, NY, NY on Friday, and Asbury Park on Saturday, plus they'll be in Boston and Rhode Island next week. Just in case any of those places is near you and you have the option of going . . .

Alas, we have school dances and birthday parties all weekend. I saw them as a teen, but I can't remember who they were the opening act for--maybe the B-52's???? I have I Confess stuck in my head now, which is a good thing!

Dave Wakeling is still good looking, with hair, but he has a bit of a gut these days. He can still sing and play, though, which is what truly counts. I heard a woman in the ladies' say (during the opening act, of course, that back in '82, she saw the Beat open for R.E.M. and Squeeze - three of my all-time favorite bands from that era - lucky woman!)

Okay, Anne Marie. I'd better start making a list of folks whose hugs and greetings I have to pass along!!

The Rogue Chocolate Stout was so good that I had two - I usually only have one beer, if I have any at all.

We just revisited our version of Carl Perkin's MATCHBOX ala ska and it's nearly impossible to play and sing because you want jump around like a pogo stick!

Sounded like a AWESOME concert!

To quote Chester Burnette, you sound like you're "SITTING ON TOP OF THE WORLD!"

The guys in Bad Manners ran in place (high knees), jumped up and down a la pogo stick, and did a reggae boppin' back-and-forth move throughout the entire performance. The English Beat were a bit more restrained, but you absolutely cannot stand skill when there's ska in the room.
