NEED by Carrie Jones

M has just now handed me three book reviews, which I'm going to run in the order I ran my reviews of the same books. It's unusual for us to have reviewed the same book, but M was so excited about three recent titles (NEED, LAMENT, and FAR FROM YOU) that she up and wrote three reviews. What's a proud mama to do - I've got to run them all, right? Tonight, it's M's favorite book in recent memory from one of her all-time favorite authors: NEED by Carrie Jones. I should warn you that M has included some spoilers in here. She's not kidding.

Of all my gifts this Christmas, a signed copy of NEED by Carrie Jones, topped them all! I love love LOVE this book, but a brief warning: This review may reveal spoilers! Avert your eyes if I spoil too much. (I swear I will try not to.)

In Carrie's most-excellent book, NEED, which I love, we follow young Zara (awesome name - just throwing that out there) as her mom ships her off to chilly Maine from her zombie-like, phobia-chanting life in South Carolina. There she stays with her late stepfather's mother, her grandmother Betty (who is awesome, by the way). But Zara keeps noticing this stalker guy who followed her from South Carolina. Could he be connected to the disappearance of a teen boy, something that the small Maine town hasn't seen in years?

Anyway, while this creepy stalker dude is being creepy and stalking Zara, she befriends small but adorable Is and cool, wheelchair-bound Devyn. She also befriends hotty "bad boy" Nick. This is where I have to keep hush-hush and not COMPLETELY ruin this fabulous book for you. Turns out that creeper that's stalking Zara is a pixie, leaving behind gold dust. Only two things can ward off pixies: weres (as in where, not were), and iron. But the genius of Carrie Jones takes it farther than just your average wolf. She does WERE-BEARS and WERE-TIGERS! (All of which, may I add, are awesome!)

So, Carrie - mission accomplished. It was amazing! I loved it with all my heart and you made my Christmas. I cannot stop raving about this book! I LOVED IT! FAVE BOOK OF THE SEASON!!

P.S. - This has nothing to do with NEED, but my friend who hates to read grabbed my book in school the other day, started reading, and is going to try to find herself her own copy so she can read it. The book? Tips on Having a Gay (ex)Boyfriend! Kudos Carrie! So far, you're 4 for 4!
