I don't remember ever seeing the movie when I was a kid. They remade it a few years back with talking animals (gah!)

...if the Disney animals talked. I think it was just narrated. And if they talked, it was "voice over thoughts." not their lips moving.

I really don't think they talked though, just narration of what was going through their minds and how they reacted, etc.

In the original Disney movie, they didn't talk. In the remake from a few years back, they did. I refused to see it on principle.

I loved the book and the movie--the old movie, that is! I still cry at the end when the music soars and Bodger comes trotting after the other two.

MILO and OTIS rocks! slatts September 17 2008, 14:49:55 UTC
But it's the kid of movie that couldn't be made today or at least in the states. They did some wild stunts with those poor animals and there was no CGI. But Dudley Moore was fantastic telling that story.

I watch this once a year!

I've not seen Milo and Otis either. Must look for it.

Awww! I remember reading SOCKS -- though when you reviewed it, I also thought, "Eh? Anthropomorphizing? I didn't do that, did I?" -- but I loved this book. The movie was very true to what I'd imagined.

I guess I actually was okay with books-turned-to-movies when I was smallish. I do think they're more faithful to the text in early readers and MG books sometimes. *(And then I see something like HOOT and writhe and roll around and think, "No...")

And then you see Holes and think "yes!"
