My friend and co-worker at work has a tradition in her family to read this poem every Christmas Eve, complete with special sound effects and various people reading different parts. I said - The Highwayman? On Christmas Eve? She said, oh, it's family togetherness at its best. :)

I cannot read this poem anymore without hearing Loreena McKennit's version sung in my head. In fact, I now have the poem practically memorized!

I do love "a ribbon of moonlight over the purple moor."
