Being in New England - and particularly in New Hampshire - puts me in mind of one of my favorite poets, Robert Frost. He worked not far from here, about an hour north near Franconia Notch, close to the shadow of the Old Man of the Mountain before he slid to his doom. His great-great-grandson (or some such greats, I'm not sure) is a student in the district I sub for. I've had him several times over the last couple of years, and I remember him because his name is Robert Frost. When I first had him, I just thought his parents liked the poet and happened to have that last name, but no, he told me he's related.

He doesn't yet appreciate his name.

I wonder if he's better off knowing less, so as not to feel saddled by the weight of his name . . .

Don't you just love it when weirdness like that particular form and its history come popping up? (Tennyson used the form again in another poem that addressed his critics, too. It's got a proud history, of which the old-time students who received a "classical" education were all aware.

Today's quote (on my Google home page):

I spent two days writing one poem, and so far today I've written two more. Funny, that. Thanks for asking!

You are most welcome. I remember being blown away by it in college, and it still impresses me today.
