Where I stand

No, not "here I stand," and I'm not recanting anything either. (Bonus points to anyone who cares to sort that out.)

I've been researching and writing and even attending a free seminar series on Jane Austen, to say nothing of reading her novels and other writings (Juvenilia, betweenities, letters and poems) and watching movie versions and listening to CDs that include music she played on the piano, heard at concerts, and danced to.

I've got a pattern and some fine linen with which to make a shift, and I'm starting to look into the making of a Regency period gown.

And lately, I've started to assess stuff. I spent some serious time putting together a bibliography for the books that I own and am using/have used for my research. Thus far, that includes 47 books (and still counting) that are in my personal library; I have to start a second page for the books I've relied on from the libraries in the area as well as all the scholarly articles I've got printed out (4 thick binders full, and counting).

I also updated the table of contents that I keep at the front of the binder in which I keep printed copies of all my completed poems, as well as some in-process drafts that I'm fond of. I've completed 48 usable Jane poems thus far (and another 3-4 that really don't work for my purposes, but don't completely suck). It is obvious to me that I need to buy more books, as I appear to be only one poem ahead of Jane-related volumes. Or something.

In other writing news, I subbed three poems to the Writer's Digest Poetry Contest this year. I won 17th place in the contest a few years back, then failed to submit last year. I've also sent a few picture book manuscripts out into the world - you'll be the first to know if any of them sell. Okay, the second to know, probably. But still.

Oh. And I wrote an article about graphic novels for the February issue of The Edge of the Forest e-zine, which went up on Leap Day afternoon. My particular focus was on graphic novel adaptations of other novels. I hope you'll check it out.

Soon (as in two weeks from now), I'll be in Arizona with the kids for spring break vacation with my folks. I think I might try to leave Jane at home, and pack my gnomes instead. Who am I kidding? I can't completely leave Jane at home. Maybe I'll just pack one or two of her novels to get through - I've still not read all of Mansfield Park, and it's been years since I read Sense and Sensibility. Plus, I've only listened to the audiobook of Emma (which rocked!), and read about the first 12 chapters. So, let's make that "I'll pack my gnomes and two or three Austen novels" instead, shall we?
