I agree with HipWriterMama, and I also (gasp) didn't think he was a terribly good actor 'til Fight Club, which just rocks. And then Babel. Wow.

And yet I love him for his roles in Ocean's 11/12/13 - his chemistry with George Clooney is irresistably great.
