I love books that make kids read like this, and I confess that as a teacher-writer, I've ignored a kid "reading under the desk" more than once. Great post to share, Kelly!
It's a tough call, isn't it, when you see a kid not paying attention to your lesson, but it's because they're reading something else? If I were a teacher, I guess whether I called them on it would depend on how important what we were doing was, and also on what the book was -- if it was the class novel that they were supposed to read for last night's homework, I'm not sure what I'd do!
I don't have a clue how to use the sidebar, so I don't put it there. And yes, I have to remember to paste it in every time.
If I paid Statcounter or whomever it is, I think they'd actually track by post where people went once they came to my blog (if they clicked through to a particular entry, for instance, it would say how long they spent there, etc.). No idea whether it'd do that if in the sidebar or not, but I'm sure the help desk of the stat site could tell you.
