I found a computer, la la la la la la!
Got to South Carolina without major event, unless you count the small rock that hit my windshield and left a small supernova near the bottom of the glass. Hubby is distraught, but seriously, these things don't really bug me.
Had dinner with my soon-to-be-wed cousin and her kids and her fiancé last night (at a restaurant that serves a lot of wild meat -- truly. Buffalo, alligator, kangaroo, elk, and oh yeah, yak. Color me queasy at the thought. But the rainbow trout was good.) Then we all saw the new Harry Potter movie. Poor hubby got stuck afterwards in the same van as me, my Potter-fan kids and my cousin's Potter-fan teen as well.
The movie? Rocked. Oh the cold snide sexiness of Lucius Malfoy. Oh the odd sexiness of Voldemort (and it's not just me, M sees it too)! Oh the yumminess of Sirius Black. In velvet. And I'd rave about the wonderful hotness of the teens in the movie, but I don't have the time. But hey -- even Neville is looking good these days. And hubby had no problem following the whole story, even though he's assiduously avoided the books. And the plot was streamlined and sensible.
But.
So much was missing. I understand the decisions made to condense things down and edit stuff out. But I so wanted to see the hospital scenes with the Longbottoms (and was hoping to see Kenneth Brannagh again, too). And I wanted to see Cho's friend with a nasty case of pimples, but no luck there either. And cousin David really wanted to see the tea shop scene, because it's one of his favorites for how terribly awkward it was (and David's 14, so he knows from awkward). And, and, and . . . So very much missing. Understandably. But the New York Times's assertion that the movies don't live up to the books on purpose? Ridiculous! Rowling packs so very much into her books that it can't all fit on the screen without things going awry.
And one major plot point that comes back to bug me? The conversation between Harry and Dumbledore at the end, when they discuss the prophecy. Because I'm not certain that what the screen Dumbledore confirms for Harry is what the prophecy truly means. But we shall see . . . in just about a week.
Have a wonderful day. If I'm not back tomorrow, enjoy your weekend too!
