I haven't written any Harry Potter fanfic since the final edition of the late, lamented
hoggywartyxmas fest last December. I'd run out of ideas, for one thing, and I had other stuff going on, and I thought my HP-writing days were over.
But now I've been inspired to dip my toe back in the HP waters because a) I need a fantasy distraction from the disaster of

This is really lovely; it manages to be cozy and sad and hopeful all at once, and of course, your Severus is perfectly drawn. A creature of habit, certainly, and in the habit of looking on the dark side of things, but with a glimmer of hope underneath it all.
Snape calling Minerva waspish and irascible is funny.
"Wouldn't deign to spit in his mouth if his teeth were on fire" is such a great image.
Thanks for the treat!

Lonely Headmaster Snape is one of the most "un-cheerful" settings, but it does not sound too sad in your drabble... At least nobody will disturb him down in his former dungeon-quarter, so he finds a bit of quiet reflection-time.

Awww... I'm sure that would have been a very lonely Christmas (and year) for Severus.
Glad you're able to move about with a bit more ease now. I was going to suggest the knee walker (former PT assistant here). Sending healing vibes your way, dearie.

Last time I broke the foot, I rented a knee walker (of which I'd never heard until then; a student recommended it). I couldn't take it out because I couldn't get it in the car by myself, but it really helped around the house.
Getting it to move over carpet was a hassle, though, so this time, I did a lot of research before choosing an all-terrain Knee Rover. It cost a bit more than some of the others, but so far, it's been really worth it.
I looked into renting again, but after sixteen years (and in NY), the rental prices are so high that it made more sense just to buy one. And of course I superstitiously hope that now that I own my own nice knee walker, I'll never need one again!

Your writing muscles are doing better than your foot bone, at any rate!
Good drabble. Hope you feel better soon, have fun with the knee walker.

I'm going to take the knee walker on its inaugural city voyage tonight; Partner and I plan to try going out to dinner. We've got reservations at a place that's very close by, and we'll take things slowly. I'm looking forward to it.

Take care to avoid what one of my brothers named "knee-walking, gutter-hugging drunk". At least until you get home.
