I've waited with this post until I had time to catch up.
Holy Moses.

Sybil.

As soon as the good doctor said that the spasms resulting of natural childbirth would kill her, we knew what was going to happen, of course. But I did hope that Dr. Clarkson would have a last, desperate remedy to try.

As it was, it was heartbreaking. Very well acted by everyone.

And Dame Maggie! The absolute, utter highlight of series three. I don't think they'll be able to top this moment.

I did enjoy the "plain cook" exchange, too. Much better way of writing Isobel.

It's the downstairs situation I find more unbelievable by the hour. If I get it right, Daisy fancies the second footman. The second footman fancies the new kitchen maid. The new kitchen maid fancies the first footman. The first footman doesn't fancy anyone, especially not Thomas, who is in for a sexual harrassment case any moment now.

Could they all just stop playing musical chairs and leave just the Thomas-situation?

I'm totally with you on the silly downstairs shenanigans. This is the best they can come up with for servants? Fatal-illness scares and farcical romance?

I'm pleased with the changes in Isobel, though. She'd been rescued from last year's caricature.

I’ve seen this during lunch, and boy has it pissed me off!

Because when the upper-class gents start puffing out their chests and being Men in Charge, everything inevitably goes to hell.

THIS! I mean, seriously. I knew Sybil was when the two doctors started to disagree. Very sad, but at least it seems like Cora won’t forgive her husband any time soon, and he really was an arse and I do blame him. Great acting from everyone, though.

I'm willing to cut his lordship a little slack. He really did do what he thought was best, and it's more of a sad commentary on the society that created him than on himself that the only way he knows to deal with a crisis is to assert the "superiority" of his sex and class.

Still, I'm not Sybil's mother. So I can more than understand Cora's reaction.
