We had a little earthquake here at around 6:05pm (less than an hour ago)! Thankfully it was a very mild one (about 2.0 on the Richter scale) and was fairly smooth...sort of like a gentle rocking ( Read more... )

Well that must have shaken the day up! Typhoon's don't sound like fun, so all the best for that. Will you miss some of it when you're back in Gib?

Not sure...I think typhoon season's between July and October so I probably won't miss out on that while I'm in Gib. I've been reading up on preparations for typhoons so I know to stock up on bottled water and easily-made meals in case the power goes out.

Sander's been through a few typhoons and says that Hsinchu seems to miss most of the bad stuff so it shouldn't be that bad. A lot of wind and rain but the mountains protect us from the worst apparently. I think the worst part is the possibility of being without internet for some time.. :P

I was in an earthquake in Taipei when I was there in early 2005. It was mild but I was in a 7.0 (or therabouts) when I lived in California in grad school. :D

Yikes! That must have been scary. :S I haven't been in anything past 2.0 as far as I know.

Hi,
I am graduating college in the united states in may and I am looking to move to either the mainland or Taiwan to improve my Mandarin. How did you come to live in Taiwan? Is teaching English the only way/the best way to get over there?
Any help would be awesome.
Thanks in advance
