It begs the question,"if refusing to allow passage on a public thoroughfare during a dire emergency by pointing a firearm at you isn't some kind,/i> of violation of one's basic civil rights, what is?"

My guess is if they'd actually shot someone, a rebuke of some kind might have been issued.

Or maybe not.

Well, I suppose certain arguments could be made about it having been Martial Law and all... I really was neither surprised nor offended to have had rifles pointed at me for two days after the storm, by police in town. I mean, until I spoke, they didn't know who I was or what I was doing. But to have them disallow us passage... When we were trying to leave town... I mean that was just ridiculous. What's the message there? We suspect that you may be some of the people who have wreaked havoc in the city for three days; so we are going to forcibly keep you in town, where there is a total breakdown of any law enforcement capability. So you can potentially exacerbate the problem. And they can threaten to shoot you too.
Sheesh.
