I'm fairly certain that all you would need to do is set up a email address for the fund; then people can donate via paypal.
2. Local donations
If you have a locally (or regionally) owned bank in the area; often they are very helpful in setting up a donation account and can also get out the word.
3. Raffle/Auction
This is a lot of calling and begging. If you have a community charity organization (Catholic Charities etc) - call them and beg for leads. Also consider having different funds that people can donate to at the dinner. Such as having a hospital fund to pay down the hospital bill at one table. Then have an education fund for the kids. If you have the manpower to do it - you can also have a live auction with smaller donations. Sometimes it is easier to get 20 $50 prizes than 1 $1,000 prize.

How are you doing with this? I don't have any helpful suggestions (other than setting up an email to route paypal donations, like Elise said) but I'd like to contribute.
