Pointless movie reviews and other things of no great importance

Primer I'd call a must-see movie for anyone who likes social science fiction (by which I mean stories exploring what people might do given access to some interesting bit of technology -- where the people are plausible, and what the tech does is eventually clearly defined, whether or not it's plausible). I use record, tivo, tape, and save as equivalent verbs for storing a show on the tivo. Also sometimes I use analogs from downloading: grab it, gank it. sometimes also keep or schedule.

tivo is a fine general verb for it, and people with replays can twitch like people loyal to Puffs.

It's helpful for brand recognition to be the one whose name is appropriated for a product or a verb, but it does mean your trademark and copyright are lost. A smart company will capitalize on it, a twitchy company will loathe it.

Thanks for the "Primer" and "Mr. and Mrs. Smith" reviews. I was sorta interested in the latter. :)

Are you now more or less likely to see it? :)

It does have some romantic comedy in there with the explosions -- quite nicely interlaced, really -- but the boom outweighs the giggle by a lot.

I think I'll be slightly more likely to see it. I like certain kinds of mindless violence, especially if it's stylishly done. But I may also try to see Primer which I'd probably have avoided otherwise.

Where did you see Primer? Has it been released in theaters, or did you find it on a disc?

A friend was showing it. They'd gotten it on DVD, I think, but had long since copied it to disk somewhere in their entertainment system. (Geeks who tinker with home theater systems, eek!)
