Knitting Beowulf

I think at least firstfrost and remcat will be amused by this pattern for socks with the first page of the text of Beowulf. Link yoinked from ysabetwordsmith, who says she'd rather have that on a vest. Given the charts for the socks and a simple vest pattern, would that be hard? Yeah, it looks like the text is basically a rectangle, so it should be easy enough to put the rectangles on a basic boxy vest. (I keep wanting to make a sweater out of one of their yarns someday. It's very pretty.)

It is actually not that hard to make your own pattern for something like this. They have graph paper made specifically for making knitting patterns. You can find it for free online. With it you should be able to make almost any pattern that is possible through knitting.

I can scribble things on graph paper, or uneven graph paper for knitting (I crochet), but I have no particular skill in figuring out which collection of squares along this odd diagonal line will make the result look good. I'm not sad to leave that to the pros. And in this case, it would never have crossed my mind to try to turn this into a knitting pattern.

That said, I know someone who would probably be amused by some knit/crochet Faust ...
