I thought she was a good Saavik -- I missed her in the sequel.

Me, too. Kirstie's Saavik showed more emotion than Robin Curtis', and I liked her better for it, since she's half Romulan. (I think it's interesting, though, that when I visualize young Saavik in Wildcat's Spock/Uhura fics, I see RC.)
