Haven't read J.D. Robb, but debmats likes her but prefers Nora Roberts, I think.

Read Book of Skulls in the late '70's but barely have a memory of what it was about, except that I liked it, though not as much as other Robert Silverberg novels. My favorite of his is Dying Inside.

A trektone recommendation! keker February 24 2006, 09:49:33 UTC
Nora Roberts is my mom's favorite writer, I may have to check her out. She apparently includes a lot of supernatural elements in her non-J.D. novels, and makes references to Buffy the Vampire Slayer in a few of them. So she's got that going for her. My sister read an article that said 85% of new romance novels include supernatural elements. I think that's cool, but odd. Probably related to Joss/Spike.

Thanks for the RS recommendation! I will definitely have to take a look at this. I also have Smoke and Shadows/Smoke and Mirrors and the Octavia Butler novel that you listed in your best of 2005 down on my list of must reads.

J.D. Robb books are definitely eye candy. Really enjoy them!!! Read the first 18 books that were out in less than two weeks.

I put off reading them because I really enjoy Nora Roberts regular stuff and have been disappointed by other romance authors writing sci fi.

I've been reading Nora Roberts' stuff since her first Silhouette Romance back in 1982?

Deb, you've convinced me. I'll have to read the rest of J.D. and some Nora! Although, 18 books in two weeks...you are awesome! I was that way w/ the Anne Perry Charlotte/Inspector Pitt novels (though I think there were only 9 of them when I was reading them.) I had a vacation and a stack of paperbacks and I just kept reading until they were all gone. Like mental potato chips with more violence and romance and a lot less cholesterol.

Now I want to read The Book of Skulls again. Like trektone, I read it long ago and only really remember that I liked it. Hm...actually, I haven't read any Silverberg in a long time. Maybe I should....
