Stay Lost in This Moment Forever

Apr 01, 2008 19:05

Disclaimer: Not mine, BBC owns them all! And the song belongs to Aerosmith.
Rating: PG-13/ (could be R for sexual references.... sorta, or not. But better be safe than sorry!)
Summary: A response to the challenge over at songs_in_time, to write a fic inspired by "Don't Want To Miss A Thing" by Aerosmith and to have the Doctor hold Rose (after making love) and refusing to go to sleep, even though he's tired because he doesn't want to miss another second with her, now that she's back. So yeah, it's kinda fluffy :P
Athor's Note: All my love and thanks to dirgni19 for the beta.

SPOILERS FOR DOOMSDAY

He's trying to fight off the sleep that wants to draw him in to the land of dreams. But he wants to stay here, in the real world, for just a few minutes more. She's laying halfway across his chest, his right arm around her and her fingers are making small, enchanting circles on his chest and belly. She smells of dust and dirt, of sweat and of him and he has never smelled anything so sweet. And he has smelled roses before, but never Rose like this. Like she is his, his own. He doesn't want to fall asleep, doesn't want to miss a minute with her. They've already lost so many.

She said she'd be there forever and he thought life had forced her to break that promise. In a way she never left, he never stopped thinking about her. About the blonde hair and the cheeky grin, the questions and the look of awe in her face when he showed her something new. He always looked for it, both in Donna and in Martha, but never found it. It was never that he tried to replace her, already when Donna found Rose's lost shirt had he realized he would safe-keep it and hope for her return. He'd thought it silly, stupid. But more than once had he looked at the piece of garment, sometimes even smelling it and wanting her back.

The Doctor draws a hand through the blonde strays belonging to the head that rests so peacefully above his right heart. He'd found her again. He couldn't believe his luck! The Daleks had once more opened the rift, the bastards, and after them he'd gone, he and his fellow TARDIS. Facing the destruction of Earth he had first forgotten the chance to find her again. But Rose, the clever girl, had used some funny Torchwood gadget to contact him and he'd been able to pick her up again! And Jackie was there, and Mickey, his little idiot! The Doctor smiles to himself as the memories of the people who'd taken care of his Rose washes over him.

He had been jealous of them. When he saw them at that beach again, he was jealous, which was silly! But they had had this time with her, this time of anguish and pain for him. This time of adventures without meaning, of saving planets without her smile afterwards. All this time she'd been safe, and he'd been out there trying to forget her. With no luck, as it appeared.

And he knows she misses them. He still isn't sure this is the right thing to do, keeping her with him. He knows she walked away from her family, from her younger sister who will never get to know her and the father she had just started to bond with. But when he'd asked she'd looked him in the eyes, "I said forever, didn't I?" And she had, hadn’t she? So he'd hugged her, kissed her, smiled and cheered, dragged her into the TARDIS as they had to head back to this reality, facing danger once more.

But she is here now. And all the time they'd missed, they have just made up for. It wasn't more than they had stepped into the TARDIS and he had put in new co-ordinates that he'd found her all over him, her kisses filled with need. And he remembered her body, her smell. Even as she was dirty from the fight, her hair unwashed after days of running and fighting, he remembered her. This was his Rose, his wild flower.

He is so tired now. Her hand is still moving, but slower, and her breath becomes deeper, as if she's drifting away. But she is here! She is his! A smile creeps up his face, a happy feeling filling his whole inside and suddenly he laughs out loud. Rose stirs, surprised.
"Why the laugh?" her low voice says. He thinks about answering, but instead hugs her close, rolls her over so she lies on top of him.
"Because of you, Rose Tyler!" Her sleepy eyes look down at him as she laughs at his silliness. Then he throws his arms around her, and she buries her face in the nape of his neck and laughs with him. "Because you're back, Rose!" The last he close to yells, wanting it to go through the TARDIS' corridors, for the world to hear. She laughs with him, her breath sending shivers down his spine. Her body is warm; her hair is in his face. They laugh for a while, for the happiness at being with each other again. Forever, he thinks, forever this time.

"I never left," she whispers, "I hope you know that?" He turns his head, his hand stroking her head, her dirty hair. She places a kiss on his cheek and sighs.
"I do, Rose. I do now." he closes his eyes.
"And I'm never leaving you, you hear that Doctor? And you're not trying to 'save me' again or 'keep me from danger', you hear? I'd rather die then go through this again..." Her sorrow mirrors his. The pain of loosing each other, as well as the simple pain of not being together. He wants to spend the rest of his life with her, without her it has no meaning. He has tried that already.

He lays her down beside him, back with her head on his chest, and snuggles closer, feeling her body against his. She's gained some weight he notices, as opposite to his skinny figure. He traces patterns on her hips before moving his hand up to her face and pulling her in for a deep kiss, not a needing one this time, but a kiss that tells her it is them now, that this first time won't be the last.

He is enjoying this too much, but sleep is nagging him, reminding him of a long day with a happy ending. But it is she who finally drifts off to sleep. He watches her for a while. Looks at her hair, feels her skin, hear her breath. And somewhere making sure that she won't run away or get snatched away from him without warning.

Because he knows that will be the end of the last Time Lord.

Don't Want to Miss a Thing by Aerosmith
I could stay awake just to hear you breathing
Watch you smile while you are sleeping
While youre far away dreaming
I could spend my life in this sweet surrender
I could stay lost in this moment forever
Every moment spent with you is a moment I treasure

Dont want to close my eyes
I dont want to fall asleep
Cause Id miss you baby
And I dont want to miss a thing
Cause even when I dream of you
The sweetest dream will never do
Id still miss you baby
And I dont want to miss a thing

Lying close to you feeling your heart beating
And Im wondering what youre dreaming
Wondering if its me youre seeing
Then I kiss your eyes
And thank God were together
I just want to stay with you in this moment forever
Forever and ever

Dont want to close my eyes
I dont want to fall asleep
Cause Id miss you baby
And I dont want to miss a thing
Cause even when I dream of you
The sweetest dream will never do
Id still miss you baby
And I dont want to miss a thing

I dont want to miss one smile
I dont want to miss one kiss
I just want to be with you
Right here with you, just like this
I just want to hold you close
Feel your heart so close to mine
And just stay here in this moment
For all the rest of time

Dont want to close my eyes
I dont want to fall asleep
Cause Id miss you baby
And I dont want to miss a thing
Cause even when I dream of you
The sweetest dream will never do
Id still miss you baby
And I dont want to miss a thing

Dont want to close my eyes
I dont want to fall asleep
I dont want to miss a thing
