I feel so terrible that I can't take in every unwanted animal that shows up on freecycle. Just the other day there was a post that went something like "My son has a 3 yr old cockatiel but he's bored with it and won't take care of it."
I love you! And I don't understand people who use living things as decoration, it infuriates me. Also what lavajin said. If I didn't think things through my house would be FULL of rabbits by now u.u
Totally get that - we may have just picked up our second rescue dog...
I had a leopard gecko. It became horribly ill in the Vermont cold - no matter what heat lamps I gave it, it still wasn't warm enough. Now it lives with my dad in New York, and is actually quite a chore because shedding is a complicated affair for him. He is actually an amputee, because the skin once got caught around his leg, cut off circulation, and caused a gangreen infection. Now he gets sprayed several times a day, and if he looks like he's having trouble, my dad will try to help by using a pair of tweezers to pull off the skin. He is also afraid of crickets, and has stopped eating meal worms, so now he only eats wax worms which are not very nutritious. Maybe he's just an oddball, but he's been quite a chore. He's now 8 years old though, so I guess it's working for him.
