About this time three years ago, I found out someone close to me was having marital problems and was one bad day away from getting a divorce. This was the same person who loved me but didn't always like me because my politics and religious beliefs are the polar opposite of theirs, which had often caused friction and misunderstandings in the past.

I'm sorry honey. I know how much this whole situation bothers you. A shame that this person doesn't see what they're missing by not having an honest relationship with you. They are working out their own shit on the people around them. We all do it but the self-aware at least know it and apologize for it. You are a good and loving man. Their loss.
