Every country/landmass on the earth is part of a continent. So technically you are part of Australia, just not Australia-the-country. (I think there's a less offensive/specific name for the continent, maybe?)
To quote from the wikipedia page about Australia as a contient: 'New Zealand is not on the same continental shelf and so is not part of the continent of Australia but is part of the submerged continent Zealandia and the wider region known as Oceania.'
Oceania! That's the word. But a country can still belong to a continent w/out technically being a part of the landmass--Newfoundland, for instance, is clearly an island but also part of North America. And Madagascar is part of Africa.
But whatever. It's your country! (Although I'd love to visit NZ someday.)
