Oh my gosh, leeeezards! It makes me think of the Steak series.

I was supposed to go to Kauai years and years ago, but the hurricane hit, and we never had the chance again to go. I still keep dreaming about just going and sitting on the beach one of these days.

When you get a chance, do it! It's the perfect place for just going and sitting on the beach. That's basically all we did, and I loved it. I can't wait to go back sometime.

Gorgeous! We're going to Maui and the Big Island in a month! It was hard to decide where to go. How was the traffic (or did you avoid it all to gether?), I hear it's pretty bad. :-)

We only went to Kauai, and on Kauai, the traffic wasn't bad (in our opinion, coming from Bay Area traffic!), despite road construction between Lihue and Poipu.

If the other islands are like Kauai, the main things to be aware of are that the roads are almost always 2-lane (and occasionally one-lane) and the speed limits are much lower than we're used to (25mph or lower in populated areas, 35 in semi-populated, and maximum 50 on the open stretches we encountered).

Hmmmm, narrow roads + reasonable speed limits might be considered "bad." >.> But if you mean bad in terms of volume of traffic, it wasn't at all. But we were there in off-season. I imagine Maui could be quite different, because it's such a popular destination.

thevetia had been to the Big Island years ago and what she said was that it took a long time to drive between places because of distance + road conditions (2 lanes, speed limits, etc.). IIRC talking_sock was on the Big Island and drove there, so she may have more input.
