actual books and things

I feel like I didn't read anything last year because I didn't keep track and post my annual booklist. I read at least 2 books (the first two Liz Williams' Inspector Chen books -- which I loved), but I can't remember if I read more than that, which is sad on many levels ( Read more... )

I hope that other DVD will surface for you. :D

Those behind the scenes of MC were good, weren't they? And I am sure you have by now seen the glimmer of hope about a sequel? :D I am so trying not to bounce, but it is difficult.

I know! The news of a possible sequel makes me bounce. :) It would be a dream come true. I'm trying not to get my hopes up too much, but... can't help hoping for it, anyway. :D

It is so difficult not to get one's hopes up. Before, we only had a rumour here or there. Now RC is talking about "being ín negotiations". That may still not mean a lot, but it is better than nothing.
*bounces ever so slightly*

interesting book stuff.... talking_sock July 21 2009, 23:44:08 UTC
I just read The Number One Ladies Detective whatsit by him, and I really did like it. Enough to probably get the next one, if I ever again run out of stuff to read (sheesh, my Kindle and shelves are stuffed right now). I saw that Denna was on again - heh.

I've heard good things about his Number One Ladies Detective Agency books, and those did get better reader reviews on Amazon than The Sunday Philosophy Club, but I've got a bunch of stuff to read that should keep me occupied for a while, and a few books on pre-order for the fall. But it's good to know that maybe not all his books are as turgid as the one I read.

By the way, are you watching True Blood this season, and is it any good? I haven't seen people talking about it this year, wondered if it wasn't as entertaining.

I just realized there's another torture ep I really like -- the Firefly ep "War Stories," when Mal and Wash got tortured -- but Charlie torturing 01 is still my favorite. Richard learning how to handle the agiel was great, though, too.

Another thing I just realized: I adored Ba'al, and "Abyss" was an awesome ep, but I found those torture scenes really horrific and far more difficult to watch than the others.

Yes! I knew we'd talked about another good torture episode, but I couldn't remember it was "War Stories." That's also a good one, but "Through a Mirror Darkly" remains my favorite. That it is also a clips episode underscores how excellently it's done, because normally I can't stand clips episodes.

I know what you mean about "Abyss." It's an awesome episode, but it's horrific and very hard to rewatch. Even for hot!Ba'al.

p.s./ I keep forgetting to tell you that I had an overseas package sent to me c/o your address because I don't know how they're sending it. Hope that's okay!

Yeah, I never remember TaMD is a clips ep until I go back and watch my favorite scenes (not all of which are the torture scenes; I love that one at the end in the bar SO MUCH -- "Next time I tie you up." HEE!!!).

No problem about the package. Can you track it and let me know what day it's scheduled for delivery, so I can be sure I'm home?

Yeah, that's the brilliance of that episode. It's not *just* about the torture, but about the specific dynamics between 01 and Charlie, and it lays the ground for what's coming later.

Hmmm, well, it looks like they sent it regular air mail (from the UK), so all I can learn from tracking is that "it's in the United States on its way to delivery." >< Don't worry about it! If they can't leave it, it shouldn't be a hassle for me to pick it up from the post office.
