Burn Notice, baby. Burn Notice

Yes. I did not watch this last year. Yes. klia and my mom were right about this being a good, smart, funny show that I should watch. Yes. I am a putz for not listening to them. For whatever reasons last year, I didn't make the effort -- and I know one reason was because it was on evil USA network, which has screwed me over too many times ( Read more... )

I just pimped this to my mother and one of my sisters today at lunch. *Such* a good show. And yeah, the VO is suprisingly well done. I love the freeze frame thing they do followed by stuff like "When faced with a bomb disguised as a small poodle that's about to go off, there are really only two things you can do. Run, and hope your will is up-to-date, or improvise, and hope your luck is up-to-date"... then he feeds to an alligator or something. ;-) Looking forward to S2, not only for the excellent writing, but also for some of the guest stars. ;-)

Heh heh! Me too!! I confess, hearing about the guest stars for this season gave me the kick in the pants I needed. I had already set up the marathon to record before I heard about that, but this gave me the extra motivation to *watch* instead of let the eps get moldy. And I'm so glad I did!

I caught it a couple of times while I was out of town and looking for anything worthwhile on the crappy hotel channel selection. Never saw an entire episode, but *man* talk about getting sucked in. :-)

And yeah, they're getting some prime eye candy guest stars for S2. :-)

Hey, I've been trying to pimp this since the pilot aired, and no one listens to me, either. I can't get anyone up here to try it. Which is pissing me off, because I totally know they'd love it. Because -- competence kink!!! To the max cubed!

And Sam is totally adorable. Also competent. In the last ep, when he was sending his signals to Michael, and trying to save his life, made me so happy, because it was so ultimately slashy. I'll get myself killed to save you, dude.

I adore Fiona -- she wants to shoot everyone, and I so identify with that. Also, she makes a mean Molotov cocktail.

BTW, did you know that both Michael Shanks and Oded Fehr will guest star this year?

I knew about Shanks, but Oded, too? Holy crap, I think I may spontaneously combust!

I totally get not bothering because it's on USA, especially after they killed Touching Evil and Peacemakers, but I'm just SO glad you're watching it! Yay! *does Snoopy dance*

We watched this last summer and HIGHLY enjoyed it. Not in a "getting deeply into the fandom" way, but in a "will make a lot of effort to catch it, and it brings us great joy" way.

I sort of describe it as "the Equalizer meets MacGyver, with lots of guns, but not British", but you're right about the Hustle overtones as well, plus the spy-guy stuff. (Well; early MacGyver was more spy-guy; I also acribe the voice-over thing to the MacGyver model, since Mac did that a lot; plus of course the obligatory "now we cobble together something from spare parts, with many close-ups of Michael's hands at work" parts.)

I'm kind of glad that it's a summer series, and not competing with a billion other things in fall and winter.

Michael couldn't live without cellphones! You can make anything out of a cellphone. :D And the duct tape references are slaying me.

I'm glad it's not competing against other shows, either. I was so out of it, that I thought it *had* been on in the fall and was against something else, but I wasn't paying attention.

It's so easy to miss stuff in the summer. I'd never notice these things if I didn't have a friend who keeps on top of this kind of stuff, and watches the first eps of new shows, and then reports back to us on whether it's worth it or not. He's definitely why we started watching Burn Notice at all. (It's not like I was watching that network otherwise, either, and seeing ads for it.)
