I would very much advise against a credit card. I had one in college and I charged up over 5000 in things like food and had nothing to show for it afterward. It took me four years to pay it off.
They're very easy to overuse and it doesn't sound like you need the stress of another payment.
that's basically my apprehensions about getting one. I don't know if I'll have the income to start building proper credit anytime soon so a credit card just seems like a very bad idea. Thanks for the advice!
The other thing to think about regarding credit is since you don't have a high credit score right now, your interest rate on any card you get is going to be incredibly high. You can get a card, there's no doubt about that, but they're going to get you on the interest. Having a card with an interest rate of 18-25% is not any kind of card you want; the minute you can't pay off your entire balance in the month it's due, you're going to be paying a ridiculously high price in interest.
I unfortunately have someone working for me for Fanime, or I'd offer that to you. However, in the future, if you'd like me to approach you to work at cons, I'll keep you in mind. Even if it's not every day, I can always use help.
I know how you feel bb. ;; It happened to me too because of health problems. I'm going to go out on a limb here and suggest you don't go to anime cons or cosplay for a while. It'll really save a lot of money for you. ♥ You can go back to it when you make more money but I think that it'll be better if you take a break and sort yourself out. :< I'm sorry it's so hard for you right now. Feel better!
yeah, honestly I agree, this hobby is a serious moneysucker. The only thing is, if I can at least make it to this one con (Fanime) I'll be fine with sacrificing the others. I've just invested too much into this one to give up on it just yet. Thank you for the advice/well wishes though! ♥
Hmm... I would suggest talking to your parents. I don't know what their money situation is but maybe they can delay two car payments for your birthday so that you can use that money to go to fanime. You would still be paying them back all of the money, just for two months longer.
asdlkfjal;ksdfj I'm going to go look for that airline voucher right now. You need it more than I do and I really want you to come to Fanime since I don't know if I'll be able to come over there later on in the year.
I wish I could do more, but I'm sort of in a similar situation. :c
U-Uh. So Chira and I kinda lied to our parents and said that if she gave me her credit to get to Katsucon, I was giving her mine, so my mom found and discarded the voucher since she thought I didn't need it anymore.
..........Great. Next time I'm taking everything to the apartment with me.
Applying for a credit card and trying to find money to survive living are two very different things altogether. Trying to get the former to help with the latter, though is definitely a bad idea, as everyone else has noted.
It sounds like you're budgeting much tighter than you should be. Are you literally just surviving paycheck to paycheck? Do you make enough money each month such that you could set aside a particular amount that you budget strictly for conventions and costumes? I take it asking for a raise from work is out of the question?
I kindof am going paycheck to paycheck. I used to have money to squirrel away but now it's all going straight into car payments/insurance. I am due for a slight raise here soon (annual raise, I can get like $.50 more an hour at the most I think), but I've been snubbed out of a promotion basically three times now, haha. It's pretty discouraging but yeah, I am pretty literally scraping by at present.
