Agreed. I learned a ton from an almost 80 year old teacher. I’ve also worked with people who should have been let go because they tested on their laurels, were grossly overpaid and were only there for the money. Sigh.

I was lucky that I met the bad teacher I mentioned during my second higher education, when I was much less hang up about what a teacher "should" be like, but I pity all the students who have to deal with such "educators".

Thank you!

I think the hiding refrigerator is a secret fear we all harbor: that something from our past will be revealed to embarrass us long after we are gone. I would say it's the old person's nightmare, but, on the other hand, perhaps the very old are protected by their terrible memories. They no longer remember that which they should be afraid of.

You are right, and thank you for sharing these thoughts: it did not occur to me to look on this situation from this view point. That is how my mother might feel, because she's grown forgetful, and leaves pots on the stove without switching it off too often for comfort :/

I love your reflections on life in Russia, and this is no exception. Hiding a fridge behind a wall of books (especially at work) is quite an accomplishment. Whoever first opened it was very brave. The lack of mandatory retirement can have its benefits, but it does allow people to block the progress of younger workers.
