Saturday evening, donnaustin  and I went to see Beowulf in 3D.  One word verdict:  Interesting.  Not in a bad way, mind you. I really enjoyed seeing it, and this was certainly aided by the good company.  And dude, the dragon was awesome.

uh-oh. You make me leery of going to go see this movie. (Did I use the word "leery" right? Maybe I mean "wary"?) With some works (especially in plays and musicals), I tend to decide that my judgment of it is going to be based on a certain character (Javert in Les Miserables, for example). And for Beowulf, the make-or-break-it character is Wiglaf, because I Luff Him. If they screw Wiglaf over, I will be seriously unhappy. D:

I don't know if this will help you decide, but he's basically the silent, supportive companion who watches everything. He's not the young Wiglaf of the poem. He's with Beowulf from the beginning. He's seriously a Horatio stand-in. And he looks like Gimli. It does work for the movie though. He's probably one of the more sympathetic characters.

I do think it's a movie worth watching. I won't guarantee you'll like it, but it'll be fun to pick apart either way.
