I especially like the end, the adult love phase, though every version of "how to paint my face" and "how to earn my keep" was touching, too (I thought the line was "how to claim my kill"! which worked for me with Irene and the CIA goon). Sherlock's idea that he's educating John and bringing him up works with his arrogance and self centeredness -- as one reading of the "children's work."
Mycroft as a (horrible, dysfunctional) mom fits with Lestrade as dad. Loved Sherlock's reflection next to the needle; Sherlock's fingers leaving his violin strings slowly as he segues into seeing John's nightmares. The clip as Moriarty shoots himself captures that horrified expression on Sherlock's face that isn't often seen in other excerpts from that scene in vids. At least, the ones I've seen.
Sorry, a bit disjointed. I liked this very much. It works as fic, for me.

Every one of my vids is a narrative, in my head, so I'm happy that came across here.
Thanks so much for calling out the particular bits you liked, and especially Sherlock's reflection next to the needle - I wasn't sure if that worked. 'How to paint my face,' is quite personal to me. Sherlock learning to play normal, to fit in, at least for a little while - and then using those skills to fake NOT feeling what he's feeling, at the end, to keep John safe. Moriarty's whole confrontation with Sherlock on the roof was striking , but that moment of absolute shock on Sherlock's face is the bit that stuck with me the most. I adore that bit with Sherlock's violin and John's nightmares.
Thanks so much for the detailed comment!
