It was amazing how much work was necessary for a small get together, but also how quickly and easily it went with the help of another person. Especially when that person happened to be on staff

Bryn was pleased everything was set up, and it all looked perfect. Sycora had been an enormous help setting up the bonfire area, and Joe's assistance with the cupcakes and cookies had been greatly appreciated.
It was a small gathering, but perfect for what she wanted.
After all, today she was turning twenty-one and what she'd wanted most of all was to spend it with her friends. Perhaps none of the guests would know that, but for those on the staff, but Bryn found she didn't care so much about having her birthday celebrated but for the first time just be able to spend it surrounded by friends.
Bryn makes a brief noise of surprise as Alex lifts her off the ground, and she's laughing with delight once he sets her down again.
"I might have a good time without you but now I know I'll have a great time with you here," she replied, and feeling daring, returned the wink with one of her own.
"But here's the thing," she said, leaning in a bit. She didn't want anyone to overhear this. "Today is my birthday. I wanted to spend the day with all of my friends and maybe do something for them so...that's why I got this all together. It seemed the best way to put them all in the same place."
She wasn't calling it a birthday party for herself, but a party for her friends. The distinction seemed important to her.
"But you can't tell anyone, Alex," she added in a low, hushed tone. "I don't want them thinking I threw myself a party I just...threw a party to get everyone here."
Alex smiles widely at the compliment, "I'm glad you enjoy my company that much .. the feeling is perfectly mutual." And it was. Alex had a few here at the Keep that he enjoyed spending any and all time with and Bryn was definitely among those

Bryn laughed immediately when Alex called her a sneaky minx. In truth, she rather did feel like one, doing this all mostly under the radar.
"Well it seems terribly awkward to tell people something like this. As if you're asking them to make a fuss or buy presents or...throw parties," she said sheepishly. "If someone were to ask it would have been one thing but I didn't really feel comfortable volunteering it. Besides, all I wanted was to spend the day with my friends and now I am!" she explained, reaching forward to give Alex's hand a squeeze

Alex tilts his head slightly as she explains her reasoning and a smile warms his features again. "I can see the reason for concern, but you better believe I'll keep track of the date for next time." He looks at her in an attempt to convey severity, but it comes up sorely lacking when a wide, warm grin splits his face a moment later.
"And, it's a great way to get everyone together so you can spend as much time with them as you'd like. And," he glances around, gesturing in a wide arc with one hand. "It looks as though that was a rather lovely success if I say so myself."
And then Bryn's expression changes, along with her scent, and Alex's smile slips as concern moves in. "Hey .. hey .." He lifts a hand to cup her chin, his own expression soft and full of warmth. "None of that .. not on your birthday, huh?"
"I'm trying," she said with a wry smile, and took a deep breath. She blinked back tears and then took another deep breath. "I just was reminded that Gunn's not here and he's never not been with me on my birthday."
Bryn swallowed and willed her emotions under control. It was something she'd had a great deal of practice with in the past.
"But you're right. The party is wonderful and everyone's having a good time. And next year I'll let you fuss all you want," Bryn said, sounding a bit more in control of herself.
Alex holds her gaze, offering her a warm smile as she blinks back the tears and takes a deep breath. "There you go." He tilts his head curiously as she mentions Gunn and that he's never missed one of her birthdays. He wanted to ask her about that, but would do so at another time.
Then he nods, smiling warmly. "Good, as I intended to do so anyway. Proper fussing with appropriate pampering and the like, as you are due."
Bryn, bring the party thrower this evening, was the reason that Raven had come, so seeking the woman out was definitely on Raven’s agenda before she left for the evening.
The other would be locating Bobby and…having a talk with him, but that could wait until a bit later, when Raven had her ducks lined up and her bearings straight. Right now, she was on a mission to find the hostess of the party.
She weaved her way through the crowd until she was able to settle her eyes on the other young woman, and waved a hand.
Bryn turned at the sound of her name, and when she spotted Raven approaching her, a wide smile spread on her face and she waved back.
"Hey, Raven! I'm glad you came," she exclaimed, carrying her cup of punch from the warmth of the bonfire toward one of her newer friends. "Did you just arrive?"
Beaming at Raven, and then the party around them, she shrugged lightly. She liked Raven but she didn't know the girl well enough to feel comfortable divulging her reasons.
"I thought it might be nice after all that snow. We might have more when winter falls and another outdoor party seemed nice, don't you think?"
Raven grinned and nodded, pulling at her blond hair.
"Yeah, definitely. I think it was a great idea." Raven liked parties, and now that she'd run into Bryn she was feeling a little bit better. A bit looser, at any rate.
"So who do you know of the people around here?" she asked, trying to make conversation. Maybe they had friends in common, or perhaps she didn't know people that Bryn thought Raven would like?
Raven glanced over her shoulder and took a quick look around. "I've met Kevas, Zeke, I think I met someone named Zachariah before. And uh..." She rubbed at her head. "Bobby. I think that's it..."
Rapunzel had been here for some time already, chatting with people and having her fill of the sweets and baked goods that were provided.
Though before she left...she had to do at least one thing, and that was meet the hostess of the party. It would be rude of her to just leave and not at least introduce herself!
So, she had wandered around until she had pinpointed that this was indeed Bryn, and then came up to her, smiling brightly and clutching a cup of the punch.
Bryn saw the girl with the very long hair approach with her cup of punch, and immediately she found it hard to not drop her jaw. The girl was extremely pretty but her hair was simply astonishing. Gorgeous. It looked shiny and as soft as silk. It was hard not to openly admire it, really.
With her own cup of punch in hand, Bryn offered a welcoming smile to the girl.
