Pick a character I write, or one you know I plan on writing/have a work in progress for, and I will give you the top five ideas or concepts or factoids I keep in mind while writing that character that I believe are essential to depicting him or her accurately. 1. He's fiercely proud of who he is; for years and years he was a world class power with an expansive "harem". Other empires paid tribute to him. See: "Sinosphere". He's determined to be a world class power again.

2. He has a hard time falling in love with other nations because he knows that nothing is permanent. I think he's far more likely to be in love with one of his citizens. The reason I prefer him to be paired with Asian nations is that they're more likely to be people he genuinely cares about, since he's known them for longer. It helps he influenced their culture, too.

3. He's seen so much ugly shizz going down that nothing surprises him any more. Although, he considers certain things in bad taste. I think he has some pretty twisted kinks under his bed. Especially regarding a certain island nation4. He's NOT a virgin after all these years. Hell, I think he deflowered Japan and Korea or at least was the first nation they had sex with ( ... )

2. This. I like to think if he did fall in love with a human by chance, it would have ended badly.

3a. There was a 4koma page that Russia was bawwwing to him about why he had to be lonely. China answers "That's how I know you're still young" as he thinks about Japan walking away with his katana ;n;

3b. With age comes experience, and I bet he picked up a few tricks along the way. Just because he happens to bottom doesn't mean he's an easy lay

4. After Mongolian invasion? Nope.

5. He's also the type to want to do things his own way, not only because of bad history, he just likes doing things the old way out of tradition.

Did you listen to the Drama CD? He is not thrilled with Western holidays and gets confused when Japan mentions following the Gregorian calendar's New Year.

1. I think he might look down on Yao. Hong Kong in real life has a higher standard of living than the Mainland for sure.

2. He's a party animal underneath his modest exterior.

3. He's quite the youthful person. Likes his youthful things, like 2D girls and video games. He likes fashion and popular music, that's for sure.

4. He can be pretty badass. Remember The War?

5. He's...well I think acknowledges Britain's role in his economic boom. Forgive my obvious shipping thing here, but I don't think he likes it when his "parents" quarrel...although the quote I read about Hong Kong's origins is "East and West were not in love, but they were having sex".

I'm more than halfway done = =;;

So, Vietnam:

1. Again with China. She spent a great deal of her life under his rule, so she's bound to have picked up some of his habits and value systems.

2. She values her independence from her and any other colonizers greatly. You know the Trung sisters? I'm not sure if she's friendly towards China or not.

3. She's old and wise and knows a few things about love and patience....

4. She still has emotional and physical scars from the Vietnam war and the fallout from it. Somebody requested on the kink meme for a fic where America finds out she has chemical burn scars from Agent Orange. Some day I'll write that fic.

5. Vietnam is bad-ass. That is a given.
