Can someone out there explain to me how to make my computer at work copy a song from my iTunes library to a disc

I wouldn't be surprised if iTunes specifically prevented you from doing what you describe.

In my version of iTunes, the way to do it is to make a playlist, and then from the playlist hit "Burn Disc."
