***Ring Ring***
Hello, this is WDUQ, can I take your pledge?
Yes. I would like to make a pledge of absolutely zero dollars.
*pause*
No dollars?
Yes. And I would like to register my disapproval of WDUQ's refusal to air public service announcements about local cancer screenings simply because they were sponsored by Planned Parenthood.
Oh.

I think that was totally unnecessary.

I, personally, am pissed off at PP for encouraging people to attack a fellow non-profit for sticking to it's mission. It's not WDUQ's fault.

I am reminded of the years I worked as a cashier/library flunky/service industry grunt. Sometimes people would go off at me about official policy at the institution where I worked. All I would ever do was try to be understanding, but it's kinda tough. What can I do about official policy? Nothing. If they wanted their concerns to be addressed, they should have asked for a manager. Nope, they just wanted to yell me, a poor tired minimum wage schmuck who was trying hard to get my job done and really had no time to deal with things so far outside my control.

I agree with the sentiment that this issue is an important problem, but I'm not sure that taking it out on some poor unsuspecting volunteer is the right way to go.

I pondered whether we should drop our membership over it, but nineteenfishes wouldn't let me.

I still think most of their local coverage is pretty crappy to begin with, though. I find that a lot of their stories either weren't worth the time spent on them in the first place, or are so poorly written and/or read as to be difficult to listen to---half the time when they do big stories in their newsbreaks, I want to yell at them to go back to Morning Edition already....
