So. Recently bought a tarot deck. It's pretty. But the meanings in the book make no sense to me, sometimes, so I'm browsing the internet until I find meanings that fit or put into words the interpretations in my head. Also, I've realized that I've been doing readings for some time now with my playing cards. Unknowing divination ftw? The ( Read more... )

Yeah, the book doesn't matter so much as your interpretation of the card. I mean, I find that I like to read what the book of my cards have to say, but I then make up my own meanings.

I has The Fairy Ring written by Anne Franklin and Illustrated by Paul Mason, The Fearies' Oracle illustrated by Brain Froud and written by Jessica Macbeth, and The Amy Brown Faery Wisdom Deck written by Nancy Brown. *resists the urge to fiddle with them*

So, what deck did you get? *is curious*

Yeah. And after more readings for various people (has been fairly busy..?), some of the meanings make sense in certain situations. But I still like my interpretations of them, versus the other people's interpretation of the textbook version. Especially seeing as how I was actually proven quite right almost immediately. The deck I got was one of the "shiny" decks; a shoujo manga deck. No idea which version it's based off of. But I really want the Rider-Waite deck that they had, because it would also be helpful. Even though I'm getting to know this deck better, and I'm understanding it more than when I first got it. *Still carries little white booklet around the house with the cards.*

Then again, I got it, like, Thursday. *Shrug* Though I find I like the minor arcana better... More akin to the playing cards I'm used to.... Though the people = court cards is proving accurate. I suppose.

I see that you are fond of faeries. =D

Yeah, interpretation is always iffy. And ooh at the Shiny shoujo manga deck. :D Shiny is always good. And I still always get out the books that come with the cards, although I am trying to get better at using my own interpretations.

Faeries are shiny and pretty in some cases. The Faery Ring has all of these old stories about faeries and it's awesome. And, for the Brian Froud and the Amy Brown decks, I love their art and I just had to get those decks. Brian Froud's deck is so detailed, there's always something new to see. :D

I like my deck; it might not be the best deck to start with, but I feel like I'm starting to really "mesh" with it, as it were. I want to get another deck, though. Though I'll probably get a book on interpreting them before I get another deck.

How long have you been working with tarot/oracle cards?
