Hey BBs! So here's the run down: Based on the Narada's course from Vulcan the results of the poll, it looks like a clear majority of our members can attend the party on January 2nd. We will be doing a Yankee Swap gift exchange. And... the numbers are fairly well split in regards to food, so... okay, let's go over the detailed mission briefing plan.
Date: January 2nd
Time: Starting at 4:00 PM (unless people WANT to come earlier, in which case, my door is open!)
Location:
mijan 's house, in Kansas City, KS. (Contact me for address and directions. E-mail me at faisons (at) gmail (dot) com.)
Activities: The Yankee Swap is on! If you don't want to participate, you are NOT OBLIGATED, but it's fun. Bring a gift that costs less than $10, or is homemade. It should not be expensive. It should be something that most Trek fans or geeks would enjoy, or at least something that would make us laugh. GAG GIFTS ARE FINE. Bring the gift wrapped, but don't put your name or anyone's name on it.
Movie? I'd like to suggest a viewing of "The Wrath of Kahn" as a holiday classic to relax after eating and gift-exchange. However, I leave that open to what people want to see. Bring your DVD's with you, and we'll leave that open to a show-of-hands at the party.
Other Activities? If there's snow on the ground... I would like to propose an epic snowball battle - Starfleet vs. Klingons. Or... you can just tell me I'm crazy, shake your head at me, and demand hot chocolate because you got too cold just thinking about it.
Food: We were fairly evenly split between votes for just snacks and a pot-luck, so I've got a compromise. BRING WHAT YOU WANT TO BRING. If you feel inclined to have a real meal, and you'd like to make hearty food, bring a meal-type dish. Don't go overboard though. If you want to bring snack foods, my guess is that people will probably enjoy snacking through the evening, too. That's FINE. We'll set up hot foods and meal-foods in the kitchen, and snacks on the breakfast bar or table. Desserts are important, too! You can use my oven or stove or microwave to heat things up. I'll provide plates, cups, and plastic-ware. I'll provide basic beverages, and also probably make something hearty and healthy to add to the menu. If you're bringing something that needs a bowl, let me know, and I'll get some of those, too.
Accommodations: As always, nobody drives home overtired or intoxicated from my house. I've gotta look out for my crew, right? I've got space if you need it.
So, here's what you need to do: RSVP IN A COMMENT! I need an approximate head-count. If you are bringing food, PLEASE tell us what you plan to bring! This way, we don't end up with ten plates of cookies. If you think you will spend the night at my house, please let me know so I can make arrangements. If you would like to carpool, post about that, too. Check other people's comments to see if someone in your area would like to carpool.
And with that...
