So, based on
the poll (which was tallied without my vote), the USS Macchiato Holiday Party will take place December 31st (New Year's Eve), starting at 3:00 PM at the Captain's Quarters. What could be better than this, guys? New Year's Eve with the Macchiato crew! :D
Only 8 people participated in the poll, so I want to make sure that we've got everyone on-board here. I'm probably going to send out notes to people, reminding them. In the meantime, we've got ten people, if you include me, my Trophy Wife, and Paul (who is not on LJ). I'm sure we'll end up with more than that, but I need a head-count so I can guess what size of turkey to bake. Also, if you need my address, send me a PM.
So... here are the details:
The party begins at 3:00 PM. Because people "trickle in" to our parties, I plan to serve turkey at 4:00 PM, and do the Yankee Swap between 5:00 and 6:00, depending on when people arrive. After the Yankee Swap, we'll indulge in a movie or episodes until approximately 9:00 PM.
At 9:00 PM, the USS Macchiato Holiday Party is technically over, but the party will go on! More people will arrive, and the party will morph into "
A Mighty Fine Shindig (or Jenn's Fancy Dress New Year's Eve Party)." Details on that, as written by my Trophy Wife:
Come celebrate the New Year style at Fiona & Mijan's place. Wear your best fancy dress, dressy costume or other festive party wear. (Interesting interpretations of the dress code always welcome and appreciated).
You're welcome (but in no way expected) to bring an alcohol to contribute to the bar, no-utensil-needed appetizers, party favors/hats/noisemakers, and even a friend or two. Just give us a heads up that you're coming so we know how much champagne to get. Those needing a place to sleep should bring their own pajamas, though. I have limits.
The NYE party portion of the evening will go until 2:00 AM... or whenever we all collapse. There will be a champagne toast at midnight. As always, there's plenty of crash space here. Five futons, a guest bed, a couch, a very large reclining armchair, and an air mattress are available.
You can attend either portion of the party, or all of it. If you want to dress fancy for the second portion, but not the first, feel free to bring a change of clothes.
And now... my ever-present list of bullet points:
1. RSVP! Please leave a comment below, confirming that you're coming.
2. Pot Luck. Bring something. If you want to see what other people have already volunteered to bring, check out
the poll. (If you haven't voted in it, you still can.) Please let us know what you're bringing, so we don't duplicate it.
2.A. Food allergies/dietary requirements? If you have anything in particular that you can't eat for whatever reason, please let me know. People here are cool. We'll make sure you have adequate foodstuffs to indulge in.
3. Yankee Swap! Bring a present, suitable for any Star Trek geek (or really, for ANY geek). It does not have to be Star Trek themed, but Star Trek themed is always good, too. It can be anything fun and nerdy. It should not cost more than $15. Aim for $10. Hand-made gifts are perfectly appropriate. Fully wrap the gift to conceal the contents, but DO NOT put anyone's name on it. Not your name, not a recipient's name. It's an anonymous item. I'll explain the rules when everyone has arrived. In the end, everyone brings a present, and everyone ends up with a present. How we GET to that state is where the fun lies.
4. Pick a movie/episode! We're going to watch something. Nominations are open. Please nominate your favorite in a comment below.
5. Did I mention - RSVP.
Hailing frequencies open!
