DC's New 52: 7 Months Later

So, I'm a bit of a comic fan. While owning my own comic book store for a couple of years, I was able to read just about everything that was released each month. After I closed the store, I pretty much decided to drop Marvel in favor of DC both to save money and because DC was putting out plenty of solid titles that I actually wanted to read ( Read more... )

I feel like comics companies are making enormous yet founded assumptions about fans' good will when it comes to big game-changers like the New 52. I remember seeing a couple of long, detailed comments (which apparently I didn't bookmark, stupidly) on fail-fandomanon at the time it was starting, about how in practice most people would complain but most would still but the comics - and then the person went back and gave examples of previous kerfuffles. But from what I can understand, this is a much more extensive reboot than any of the big three has tried before (barring temporary stuff like, say, the Age of Apocalypse or the Amalgam stuff).

It's been a long time since I've bought US editions on release - for a couple of years, the bf and I got Batman Legends, a UK title that rounds up three issues a month of Batman-related comics. At the time of the death-of-Batman storyline, it seemed to be running pretty close behind the main US Bat-titles, but we stopped getting it soon after, and when we finally picked it up again recently, they ( ... )

Batman, Inc is ok, and I actually like the Batwing book (Batman in Africa is an interesting idea for me), but I haven't been reading many Batman titles. I was buying practically every Batman book they printed while Dick was Batman after Bruce died, and I guess I'm kind of taking a break from them.

I also made a big change to buying my comics almost exclusively in digital format with the reboot, but after I wrote a bunch about it in this comment I decided to just make it another post instead. :)
