Dear Mrs. Meyer,
Thank you for submitting your manuscript to our management firm. As you might expect, we receive many manuscripts on any given day from 'undiscovered' authors such as yourself. To help you to understand the process, your manuscript was read by a number of our staffers before it was passed up to my desk. I must admit that your writing shows a great deal of promise, and that the manuscript you sent is an excellent start for you as a writing sample.
However, it is not strong enough for full consideration. So it is with a heavy heart that we must formally reject the manuscript that you submitted under the name of 'Sparkle Lust.' I feel that the way that the YA market is turning will not quite work with this concept.
While many of the concepts are quite viable, your protagonist is far too pro-active when it comes to her life. Trends today lean towards characters who are more blank and passive, that allow the target audience of young girls to create their own ideas on how they would interact with the characters. While we would not necessarily suggest that your main character be a 'tabula rasa,' making her the calm center of a world that is beyond her depth rather than an inquisitive seeker who wants to take mastery of the world as a whole.
I would also suggest that faeries are not very in. That phase may be well and truly over. If I were to hazard a guess, I would think that vampires are going to be the next big thing (again). If you want to keep some of the elements of the fair ones in your story you can. Hell, if you want to, you can make your vampires sparkle in the sunlight instead of burn. We are certain that with your obvious talent that you can make it work.
Finally, I would suggest you change the name. Sparkle Lust doesn't work. It needs to be something that is less direct and that may appeal to a larger crows. Perhaps something a little bit foreboding to draw in guys who don't know any better. Something that will sound good with 'Saga' after it, because believe me, you could be looking at a gold mine with the right tweaks.
In closing, keep writing and keep us apprised. We'd be very happy to take a look at it when you are done...
