We is on our holidays - day five

Actual weather - pretty lovely in the sun but the wind is vicious making it feel much colder. Super to drive in though and we have seen some lovely views of the countryside as we've been travelling around.

Fascinating juxtaposition of the Black Panther exhibition and the historic mansion!

Yes it was a weird thing to have in the museum but there was quite a bit about how the costumes were based on African culture which kind of fitted in with the theme.

Fortunately I have bought layers to wear but it was very chilly yesterday.

What a wonderful house. I do love redressed rooms. Especially kitchens.

I’m always fond of a redressed kitchen in a country house. I love all the gadgets of the time ;) The scullery was fabulous and they had a huge linen press in another room which apparently polished the sheets with rollers as it pressed out the water!

I love the way so many of these very old houses have been modernised and remodelled over and over through the years.

I suppose it’s no different to what we do to houses - but nowadays they would probably say you can’t do anything to these old places lol!!

That was what I was thinking too - we get constant cries of 'but it is our Victorian heritage!' when it comes to all the big ex-boarding house on the promenades - and I think that we only have this Victorian heritage because the Victorians 'modernised' or totally demolished the 17th and 18th century stuff that was there before :)

Catching up on your trip .... Ipswich wasn't a town on my list of places to visit, but having seen this place I really need to add it to my bucket list. Fascinating +++++

Ipswich is well worth a visit - there's quite a lot we didn't get to see including some lovely churches.

That's an unexpected exhibition to have in that mansion!

Yes, it really was as it had no bearing on the rest of the house, but I suppose it's just an exhibition space they use for all kinds of things to get people to donate to the museum. It was good.
