Baking and stuff....

Yesterday I baked the no knead bread I had set proving on Monday.  The dough rose really well overnight (this taken just as I knocked it back as I forgot to take one of it fully risen but you can see the good gluten strands in the dough!)

i've never really mastered the art of baking - my efforts were a feast or a famine, with little inbetween! You really seem to like it and i sometimes wish i lived next door - for the smells alone! Your loaves look yummy.
The door blinds look splendid! And dead useful both for shade and privacy. i was thinking about getting one for the kitchen as a cafe curtain can be irritating. i keep my medicines on the window ledge, so it really isn't long enough to keep out the flies but does afford some privacy. You can see over the wall straight in, so some needed.
i'm going to do your meme as it poses interesting questions!

I really enjoy baking. I've decided to bake our bread weekly as it's easy and interesting and much nicer than shop bought.

The blinds were horrifically expensive but are supposed to last 20+ years. They are really useful.

Your door blinds look really good, I love how they make the doors look like panels.

Enjoy your Mummy experience!

The blinds are quite horrifyingly expensive but are supposed to last 20+ years. They also have UV and thermal properties so I suppose were worth it.

I'm looking forward to the Mummy event! Off soon!

of course it has a few cat prints in it now *sigh*.

Of course you do.

That loaf you posted looks very nice.

Enjoy your mummy unwrapping party.

Thanks - I'm hoping the bread tastes good too.

I'm on my way to the Mummy thing now. Should be interesting.

I ought to have a go at bread-making some time (though probably I will just buy a machine to do all the hard work).

The Mummy thing doesn't sound like my sort of thing at all, but I hope you enjoy it.

I have a bread machine but I much prefer not using it (it leaves a huge hole in the bottom of the bread!). I would recommend a stand mixer with a dough hook as that does all the kneading for you then you just shove it in the tin and put it in the oven. Or try the no knead bread which involves a bit of mixing only.

Thanks for the advice. I so desperately need a mixer. I find making cakes by hand almost impossible now. :(

I treated myself to an Artisan Kitchenaid which was expensive but it's quiet and robust and I use it a lot.

Where did you get the blinds from? I need to contemplate what to get for the conservatory....

Thomas Sanderson but we were a bit staggered at the price. We got a good deal but they were the most expensive of the ones we were quoted. We liked the quality though and they are supposed to last 20 years.
