We don't get much aircraft noise - but I did find myself thinking that it must be rather nice and quiet for anyone who does live near an airport. For a moment I did think how much pollution must be being reduced - until it occurred to me that the volcanic ash is a form of pollution...!

The planes on the way to Gatwick usually cross over our skies, and it's not so much the noise as the vapour trails which are missing completely the last couple of days.

Biggin Hill not flying has DEFINITELY made it much quieter though as that's usually a hive of noise this time of year...

They do keep saying the ash isn't harmful, and I suppose it's less harmful that airline fuel residue??

*nods* As awful as 9-1-01 was, the silent and empty skies for the following two weeks were very nice (once we got used to the silence and the sound of birds).

The sky is just so blue without all the vapour trails of the jets on their way to Gatwick airport (we don't tend to get a lot of noise from those as they are high up).

Our local airport is Biggin Hill which usually has small executive jets flying in and out and that's lovely not to hear!

Hmmm, when we were over there a couple of years ago (almost three? Has it been that long?)we stayed the first night at Biggin Hall. I think so, anyway. Are you near there? It was a lovely area.

Yes - we're quite close to Biggin Hill (around 5 miles away). I love living here as we're only 30 minutes by train from London but only just over an hour to get down to the coast and the seaside! Plus all the farmland only being about 10 minutes away by car is great too.
