How lovely. I love Eric Ravilious's work; I didn't know about his wife. PS. Do you know about his son's work? This is a lovely film you might like to watch https://banyak.co.uk/james-ravilious
Oddly I knew her work before I saw Rivilious's work, but it was lovely to see so many that normally wouldn't be on public view. Thanks for the link - I'll check it out!
Interesting indeed! I had never heard of her, and I found her oils from the last year of her life especially captivating. I looked her up on Wikipedia. She commented that 1950 or so was "the happiest year of my life" and it shows in the paintings.
I also checked the Dulwich website and was charmed by the way they animated some of her paintings in the trailer.
It was astonishing wasn’t it, and it’s interesting to see that she is relatively unknown. Great that her career has a boost so people can see her skills.
Yes, the marbled papers were extraordinary, particularly as they still exist. Usually, they would have been used or discarded so to have examples was lovely to see (there were more I didn't post)

You're welcome - there was so much more to see at the exhibition - this only scratches how much there was :)

Edited to add: I also covet that kimono-like bedjacket.

Apparently, her autobiography is very interesting reading, so I'm going to see if I can find a copy.
Yes - I love that animation - it's so clever isn't it?
Oh yes - I loved that bedjacket - it's why I took that photo :D

The autobiography is published by Persephone Books and like her art has a unique style.
Many thanks for your company at the exhibition (and the lunch) 😊

The marbled papers are fabulous. Old books with marbled end papers are so amazing.
