Dickens wrote about realities he knew and it's horrifying to think of entire families in prison starving to death. Only because one son was allowed to work and live outside the prison, the family survived.

I have often walked in that area and have been at The George a couple of times.
I hope Guy can do a few one-off walks with your group!

Prison life was appalling in Dicken's time. It was also really odd because if you had enough money to pay your prison fees you were allowed out during the day to work - which doesn't seem to make sense if you were in there because of debts...?

The history does require some imagination in that area as it's changed so much because buildings have gone, but it's still interesting to learn more about it.

I'm hoping Guy will miss us enough for some other walks as long as his health holds out (he is in his 80s).
