Another changeable day and not warm at 19/66F with rain showers. We got up and had breakfast and then popped into Salisbury Cathedral's gift shop to buy a couple of things as small gifts for our cat sitters

We went to Bateman’s a few years ago and found it very interesting. The gardens are nice but probably not at their best today! Glad you had a lovely break :)
Yay Batemans! I have loved Kipling since reading “Gunga Din” when I was eight. David Haig really nailed Kipling’s appearance in My Boy Jack. I plan to wallow in these photos tomorrow while whiling away the hours in the hospital waiting room.
Sweetie built me three floor to ceiling bookcases in our previous house which were located in what I called my creation room in a basement bedroom. They were removed for the move and are now in our shared office. Love them.
In our previous house Sweetie had his own music room in the other downstairs bedroom. He also had a blackout curtain he made so that when was working night shift he could sleep in his music room (which was huge) during the day. Interestingly the bookcases do not reach the ceiling in our current house due to high ceilings. Hooray for three extra shelves!
I had not realised that Kipling was so well thought-of in his day! I think the Jungle Books were the first books I ever read with small writing, with my grandfather, so they have a special resonance for me.

Thanks - I’ve been to Batemans before but it was years ago so it was good to revisit it. It’s nice to be home.

Kipling’s office was huge! The wall to the left of the desk was floor to ceiling bookshelves. I was very envious!
