I'm lazy and you seem to have done the research, so I'm curious: Do you know whether DisplayPort has the kind of revocable certificate stupidity that HDMI has?
I have to admit I'd get behind it as a replacement for HDMI in a heartbeat if it didn't.
It has optional support for DPCP and HDCP, and both of those have revocation built in. But as long as your video source doesn't require DPCP or HDCP, you won't have to worry about it. Both DPCP and HDCP are licensed technologies though, so if you make your own display or your own board, you probably wouldn't deal with them at all. I would suspect though that most displays will have at least DPCP support, and probably HDCP support as well.
(Note, those being optional is functionally equivalent to DVI which it is intended to replace. I would gamble on the idea that Bluray content on a PC will likely require DPCP or HDCP...)
