Hmm... Since Cam is actually on SG1 and not SGA, how about I do my own personal twist of how he fits with Sheppard?
I think Cam is the one that trained Sheppard on the F-302s when Sheppard returned to Earth after the siege. The reason I think this is because there is no other pilot with Cam's security clearance to know of the expedition that could have done it. It was also how O'Neill helped Cam continue 'getting back on the horse' after his accident. One trip up isn't enough to ensure that Cam's nerves are back. Giving Sheppard lessons on the 302 also gives Cam something new to focus on while in the pilot's seat.
