I'm going to hurt him (not really)

Mom had to go down to Florida for a family emergency and met up with M and HD when they came up from Tampa for the same thing. The kids couldn't get enough of her and didn't want to let her go when it came time to leave since it's been 4 yrs since they'd seen her. She talked about how proud she is of them and then she dropped a bombshell on me. HD ( Read more... )

oooh. That's... not good. I mean, I'd get it if he had a reason (my own original thoughts were for the Army until I decided the Navy had the program I really wanted) or something, but a lot of people become Marines just to, well, be Marines. Which is a very poor reason to do anything.

Yeah. I'm worried that one of his buddies talked him into it since he can't become a pilot due to his reading levels (he loves to read but struggles with it.) Mom said he's still going to be a Ground Force Liaison but that doesn't sit right with me somehow. How could he still go in for the same job but for the Marines instead? I honestly, have no clue how that works.

The support staff have a lot of the same jobs. IE, the Army, Navy, and Air Force each have med jobs, and supply jobs, and the like (the Marines use the Navy's support staff), but each belong to their own branch. A GLO is basically a go-between between the different branches when they're working in concert. IE, an Air Force GLO would work with an Marine GLO if their forces were preparing an air strike on a target the Marines were attacking by ground. Same job, different sides of the fence.

Ah! Thank you for explaining that. I think that helps me not freak out as much.
