here we are in April of 2009. I've read more than 30 books in the last 3 months, so I figure I'm on track. these include:
- Miss Pettigrew Lives For A Day, Winnifred Watson.
- Farthing, Jo Walton.
- The Manual of Detection, Jedediah Berry.
- Song of Solomon, Toni Morrison.
- The Mystery of Grace, Charles de Lint.

Webcomics - www.xkcd.com! Although it may only be properly finny for science geeks, I don't know.

oh I love xkcd! I've read it for years, albeit in spurts, due to forgetfulness. I think I'd do better remembering to read the webcomics that are in graphic novel style (lengthy story arc, more like a novel than comic strips are).

I highly recommend Narbonic ( http://www.webcomicsnation.com/shaenongarrity/narbonic/series.php ). Like Girl Genius, it features a plump, blond, female mad scientist although it has a modern day setting. It ran daily for around six years, ending in 2006 because the story was complete. It's funny, very well written and has the kind of strong story arc you're looking for. The art is a little rough to start with but soon improves and is quite charming by the end.
